Spring Budget 2017
It was always said that we should think before we speak. To this should now be added ‘pause before you comment’, especially when it comes to the Spring Budget.
I’ve received a large number of professional magazines commenting on the changes to National Insurance Contributions for the self employed announced in the Budget. There’s a competition amongst experts to be the first on twitter, all trying to Trump each other or to be the first in print to capture our attention.
The Budget statement is only a piece of parliamentary theatre. It’s the subsequent Finance Act and it’s minute detail that needs to be examined.
The Prudential Chancellor – Gordon Brown – didn’t announce the millions of pounds per annum that he grabbed by cancelling dividend tax relief in pension schemes in his Budget.
In this instance Phillip Hammond changed his mind about National Insurance and this headline will no doubt mask other changes.
Best be wary!!
